Regulating delivery by varying speed and power of motor.-In pumps operated by steam &c., automatic means permit normally a slow rate of flow of steam &c. to the pump unless a vacuum exists in the suction pipe, when an increased rate is permitted. In one form, a throttle valve d in the steam supply pipe c is normally slightly open and is connected to a a diaphragm e exposed through the pipe f to the suction pipe b. The valve is held in its normal position by steam admitted above it by a passage g.
