Abstract

674,409. Centrifugal pumps. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING - SUPERHEATER, Inc. Sept. 21, 1950 [Nov. 4, 1949], No. 23159/50. Class 110(i) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a feed water supply system having a steam operated feed pump 10, 13 provided with a check valve 38 in its delivery pipe 16, the steam exhaust pipe 12 has a control valve 20 responsive to the pressure in the delivery pipe so as to open at a predetermined pressure and to restrict the exhaust of steam when the delivery pressure falls below a predetermined value. The valve 20 has a byepass to allow a restricted flow of exhaust steam when the valve is closed. A restricted byepass 36 is provided from the delivery pipe 16 to the water reservoir 14 to safeguard against a leaky check valve and to remove air from the pipe. The pump may be a centrifugal pump.
