Abstract

638,537. Fuel-injection systems. LUCAS, Ltd., J. Jan. 1, 1948, No. 24. [Class 102(i)] In a fuel-injection system, the outlet of the pump is connected to the inlet f of an accumulator, the outlet s of which is connected to the injection nozzle or nozzles. The inlet chamber e contains a spring- loaded valve h carried by a diaphragm i and 'controlling admission to the accumulator cylinder b containing a spring-loaded piston c; the cylinder b is connected to the chamber e through a non-return valve m. The chamber e is connected by a passage t to an outlet chamber m having a spring- loaded valve p carried by a diaphragm q. At starting, the valve p remains closed and the accumulator is charged through the open valve h until sufficient pressure is attained to open the valve p: After the valve p is opened, pressure is conveyed through passage u to close the valve h to ensure that the accumulator is not charged during normal running of the prime mover. In a modification, the valve m is omitted and the valve h has a lostmotion connection to the diaphragm. Specification 552,725 is referred to.
