618,933. Pipe couplings. PARKER APPLIANCE CO. Nov. 14, 1946, No. 33770. Convention date, July 6, 1944. [Class 99 (i)] In a coupling between an elbow pipe and a fixed part, a threaded portion 8 of the elbow engages a threaded portion 7 on a boss 3 of the fixed part and, over a range of positions of engagement of the elbow with the boss, a smooth cylindrical portion 9 of the elbow and a smooth cylindrical portion 6 of the boss constitute the sides of an annular chamber which houses a ring gasket 11; a threaded portion 15 of the elbow external to the boss carries a nut 17 adapted to engage the end of the boss and thus lock the elbow in any desired angular position relative to the fixed part. The annular chamber is situated between the engaging portions 7, 8 and the end of the boss, and is closed off at its end remote from the threads by a smooth wall 10 on the elbow (as shown) or on the boss. An abutment shoulder 16 for the nut is provided on the elbow. As shown in Fig. 2, this limits the amount to which the elbow can be threaded into the boss. The elbow may be turned into any desired angular setting. This brings the nut 17 out of contact with the boss. It must be turned back to the position of Fig. 3 in order to lock the elbow to the boss in its new setting.
