648,968. Pipe couplings. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. July 22, 1947, No. 19561. Convention date, July 23, 1946. [Class 99(i)] Means for connecting a pipe 2 to a chamber 4 comprises a coupling member 1 having a lateral opening 15 controlled by a spring-loaded valve 17 and registering with an opening 5 in the chamber, a bellows member 21 secured to the valve and surrounding the valve stem and a screw 33 threaded in a bridge-piece 3 on the chamber and adapted to bear on the member 1. A plug 37 slidable in the hollow screw has a tapped hole adapted to engage the screwed stem 18 of the valve, and a flanged operating cap 38 which prevents access to the wrench-engaging portion of the screw 33 when the valve is open.
