Abstract
696,845. Pipe couplings. DE VILBISS CO. March 22, 1951 [March 25, 1950], No. 6971/51. Class 99 (i). In a readily detachable spigot-and-socket coupling in which the spigot 21, Fig. 4, opens a spring-loaded valve 10, Fig. 3 in the act of coupling such as by a bayonet-type fastening 3, 22, sealing is effected by a resilient sleeve 7 which is secured in the socket and has an external groove 18 partly filled by an internal shoulder 19 of the socket. A shoulder 27 on the spigot engages an internal shoulder 28 of the sleeve 7 to press the material of the sleeve towards the shoulder 19. The socket comprises a body 1 and a ferrule 4 which screws into the body.
