Abstract
618,759. Folding furniture underframes. SLUMBERLAND, Ltd., and MARTIN. D. H. C. Dec. 4, 1946, No. 35855. [Class 52 (iii)] In folding legs for divans, tables, &c. the upper end of the leg g is provided with a slot h through which passes a pin e so that the leg may be slid vertically and also pivoted thereon. A second pin or rod f is provided, parallel to the pin e and at a higher position, which forms an abutment against which a chamfered surface k of the leg engages when the leg is in its vertical position and slid upwardly on the pin e. This action forces the sides of the upper part of the leg adjacent to the frame, against the frame. As shown the leg and mounting are formed as a unit the pin e and rod f being carried by an angle bracket c which may be secured to the frame. In other forms of frame the bracket may be of channel form. The leg may also be provided with ledges l adapted to take the weight of the frame when the leg is in operative position. Locking means may also be provided comprising lugs n having slots adapted to engage headed studs q mounted on the bracket or frame. To fold the leg it is slid downwardly on the pin e and then pivoted thereon into a horizontal position.
