Abstract

1,038,940. Table underframes. STANLEY WORKS. July 27, 1965, No. 21963/65. Heading A4H. The top 3 of a sawhorse or other tablelike structure has secured to its underside at each end a one-piece bracket 4 having depending side walls 10 each being bent, as at 18, to define a vertical upper part 16 and an outwardly directed lower part 20, the fold line 18 being formed with a vertically elongated slot 40 accommodating a rivet 30 and cup washer 34 on which is pivoted one of a pair of channel section legs 8. The legs 8 of each pair are movable on the pivot 30, 40 from a splayed apart, operative position in which they bear on the lower part 20 of the side walls 10 to a parallel, partly retracted position in which their upper ends bear on the upper parts 16 of the side walls 10. Each leg pair is then foldable on the pivot 30 to hinge about a horizontal axis and move to a position underlying the top and be releasably retained between resilient arms 70 depending from the bracket 4. The brackets 4 are in offset relationship so that the folded legs pairs lie side by side. A two link brace extends between the legs 8 of each pair. Leg abutment flanges 60, 62 are formed on the brackets 4.
