Abstract

493,233. Stays for hinged articles. LARRAD, Ltd., C. P., LARRAD, C. P., and BOOKER, T. S. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28075. [Class 65 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] A stay for the hinged legs, flaps and other folding parts of furniture comprises a slotted member 3 hinged to one part and a fixing bolt 6 pivoted to the other part so that it can adapt itself to the changing angularity of the stay and is freely slidable in the slot 5 as the part is folded. As shown applied to a table with folding legs 2 the stay 3 is hinged at 4 to the underside of the table top and the bolt 6 is pivoted at the centre of a cross member 8 extending between the legs. Cup-shaped washers may be provided to facilitate the sliding of the bolt in the slot when the nut 10 is loosened. The legs and stays at either side of the table may be offset to fold alongside one another. In a modification the legs and stays are of tubular metal, the stay comprising two tubes spaced to form the slot and the bolt 6 being provided with a transverse pin taking into a divided cross member of the leg. The stay . may be partially embraced by a bracket through which the bolt passes.
