Abstract
699,935. Folding tables. DOHERTY & SONS, Ltd., E., and DOHERTY, H. Aug. 20, 1952 Aug. 20, 1951], No. 19612/51. Class 52(iii) [Also in Group XXV] A folding table has legs of rod or wire bent to U or W form, the upper ends of the legs being bent 90 degrees out of the plane of the U or W and the outermost ends being hingedly secured, on the same transverse axis, to the underside of the table top. As shown, bent portions 7 at the ends of resilient metal legs 5 are seated in clips 14 and in grooves 10 in pivot supports 9 screwed to the under-surface of a table top 4 respectively. A cam surface 13 on the support 9 retains the legs, when in the folded position, close to the table top and, during the pivoting movement to extend the legs, engages the bent portion 6 and splays the leg outwards, the portion 7 sliding axially in the groove 10. On continued pivoting of the leg, the part 6 comes to rest against the underside of the table top and then snaps into a recess 11 in the pivot support. The legs are held in extended position by a flange 12. To fold the legs the part 6 is disengaged from the recess 11 by being pressed outwards. A pivot support may be provided at each end of each leg.
