Abstract
1,167,350. Tables. J. T. MEREDITH & CO. Ltd. 20 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 57231/66. Heading A4H. [Also in Division B4] A collapsible structure e.g. worktable, comprises at least two relatively displaceable parts e.g. top 11 and folding pairs of legs 20, 21 and 30, 31, and bracing means comprising a strut 24 or 32 having at one end a transversely extending sleeve 23 slideably engaging a support member 22 on one of the parts, and a bracket 26 or 33 on the other of the parts for engaging the other end of the strut when the structure is in the erected position the bracket including a portion 27 normal to the longitudinal axis of the strut in the erected position to abut the end of the strut and a side-wall (28) (Fig. 3 not shown), to resist sliding movement of the strut in one direction when the strut engages the bracket. The side-wall (28) may have an aperture through which a bolt is insertable to pass through an aligned aperture in the end of the strut, and two sidewalls may be provided. Diametrically opposed legs e.g. 21, 31, may be inset from the longer edges of the table so that when folded, the legs lie between the undersurface of the tabletop and a plane defined by the lower edges of a depending peripheral flange 13. In a modification (Figs. 4, 5 not shown), the pairs of legs are splayed and mounted such that, when folded, the two pairs of legs lie in different parallel planes. Flat-bottomed feet may be secured to the legs.
