Abstract
616,561. Controllers. HALVORSEN, K. R. July 12, 1946, No. 20883. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1943. [Class 38 (iii)] Handles.-An A.C. motor, e.g. a crane hoisting motor, the speed of which is varied by displacement of the motor brushes by a lever 1, may be rapidly stopped and restarted by manual operation of a switch 16 on the lever, which controls the supply to the motor and associated electro-magnetic brake, when contacts 6, 7 are closed. In approaching position B a pulley 10 at the lower end of a contact actuating rod 2 is forced through a spring- urged flap 14 to the underside of bar 13 by a cam 12 on the guide bar 11. Further movement of the lever towards position C causes the pulley to be forced still lower so as to close contacts 8, 9 which short-circuit a resistance in the motor supply circuit. During movement of the lever from position C to position. A the pulley follows the lower edge of the flap 14 and bar 11 and in position A, corresponding to the zero speed position, a spring (not shown) returns the pulley to its original position through a gap 15 and permits manual operation of the push-button 3, at the outer end of the rod, so as to release the brake.
