Abstract
610,919. Safety devices for hoists. WILHELM, A. R. April 9, 1946, No. 10912. [Class 78 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A safety device electric-hoist provided with alternative manual mechanical means, whereby to ensure that both actuating means are not employed simultaneously comprises (Fig. 2) a housing 5; a guard 7 which may be pivotally secured to the housing at 10 and is adapted to swing outwardly to the position of Fig. 1 to block the use of crank-shaft 2; a switch 25 within the housing connected in the electric motor circuit; and means (e.g. plunger 30) adapted to be contacted by the locking bar to cause the switch to be opened when the bar swings outward and to be closed when the bar swings inward. In the embodiment, the locking bar 7 swings out from channel member 5 to the position of Fig. 1 and depresses plunger 30 against spring 34 in well 29. Screw 39, which forms a fixed extension of the plunger, moves clown in consequence and permits contact 38, which is slidable thereon, to be urged down by spring 40 to bridge the electric switch contacts 25 and allow the hoist motor to be started. Pin 13 locks the locking bar in its outward position when passed through holes 15, and locks it in its inward position when passed through hole 14 of the channel member and hole 12 of the bar.
