[Class 38 (iii)] With auxiliary switches ; brake devices.- The actuating member 4 of a switch is controlled by a cam 1 movable with a main switching controller to close when the latter is in a predetermined position, and a locking member 3 is coupled to the cam so as to be moved therewith, means being provided to cause relative displacement between the cam and locking member so that after a predetermined degree of movement of the cam in one direction greater than that in which the actuating member for the cam switch is operated, further operation of the cam switch can be effected only after a predetermined degree of movement of the cam in the opposite direction past its switch closing position. The main switching controller may be that of a vehicle, and the cam switch one controlling regenerative connections to the supply. With the controller in a short-circuit braking position as shown in Fig. 3, the cam switch is opened and is maintained open by the locking member 3 frictionally mounted on the controller spindle, when the controller is moved to the regenerative braking position N. In order to close the cam switch the controller must first be moved to a high speed position F5, as shown in Fig. 5, in which the member 3 is held by a stop 6 engaging an abutment, and then return it to the position N. The member 3 follows this return movement until a stop 5 is held by the abutment, and in the position N detents in the cam 1 and locking member 3 coincide so that the cam-switch closes. The completion of the regenerative braking circuit may also be under the control of a time relay, and one stop only may be provided. The stops may be adjustable.
