Abstract
594,865. Controllers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., MOORE, A. A., ENGLISH, R. L., and TABB, R. P. E. July 3, 1945, No. 16885. [Class 38(iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] An actuating mechanism for the speed controller of an electric motor comprises a gear sector or wheel C movement of which adjusts the controller, a lever A for setting the member C to a normal speed position and a lever B for independently moving the said member to a lower speed position, the gear sector or wheel and the levers being all journalled on a common axis and the member C being,biassed towards the normal speed position wherein a pin G thereon engages the lever A. The lever B co-acts with an abutment on the member C through an adjustable lost-motion device to move the sector C to the lower speed position. The members A, B and C may be journalled on an extension of the end plate or bearing cap of the electric motor. The sector C is biassed to the normal speed position by means of a spring which is attached at one end on the motor frame and at the other on a pin E of a projection of the sector C. The lever B is provided with an extension M having a pin N which is adapted to abut on the projection O which is provided with an adjustable screw and locking nut. The invention is described as applied to the brush-shifting mechanism of an alternating current commutator motor but may be applied to the control of induction motors or direct current motors. The levers A and B may be operated by rods A<1> and Bl which may be moved normally or electrically. The lever A<1> may be operated manually whilst the lever B<1> can be automatically operated from some part of the motor - driven machine.
