Abstract
586,966. Snap-action switches; controllers. JACK & HEINTZ RESEARCH CORPORATION. June 6, 1944, No. 10884. Convention date, May 10, 1943. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A snap - action switch for use as a motor-controller has fixed contacts 3-8, Fig. 1, and two sliding contacts 9, 10 mounted at opposite ends of a pin 14 which is adapted to enter notches 11, 12, 13 in the frame 1, such notches corresponding to the "high," "low" and "off" position respectively. The pin 14 is moved out of the notches by the cam surface 18 of a handle 15 pivoted at 16. Also pivoted at 16 and connected to handle 15 by a spring 20 is a yoke 19 carrying a spring 21 which presses on pin 14. In moving from the off-position, a pin (not shown) on the handle engages one limb of spring 20 to strain it, and pin 14 is lifted out of notch 13 to move an L-shaped lever 22 clockwise about its pivot 23, thereby causing the end 24 to move a stop downwards about pivot 27 against the action of spring 28. When the pin 14 clears the edge of notch 13, the yoke 19 is snapped anti-clockwise by the stressed spring 20 until halted by stop 26, thereby allowing pin 14 to enter notch 12 and release the stop mechanism 26. This stop does not come into operation when moving from notch 12 to notch 11. In switching off, the lever 15 may either be moved direct to the "off" position, or a second stop 26 may be fitted to ensure stopping at the "low" position. In the low position contacts 4, 5 and 7, 8 are bridged, thereby placing all field windings 29-32 in series, whereas in the "high" position 3, 4 and 6, 7 are bridged, thereby paralleling 29, 30, as shown in Fig. 1.
