Abstract

615,621. Hot-blast stoves. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION OF DELAWARE. March 20, 1945, No. 6958. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1944. [Class 64 (i)]. In a hot-blast stove comprising an upright hollow structure 10 divided into a combustion chamber and a checker chamber by an upright division wall 18 of which the side facing the combustion chamber 20 is formed of refractory heat-insulating material, a stratum 18a of heat insulating material of lower heat conductivity than that of the side facing the combustion chamber is provided behind that side. The layers 18b, 18c of the wall may be of refractory brick, and the part 18a of lightweight insulating bricks, fireclay, rock wool, glass wool, etc. The heat transmitting capacity of the wall may be varied with height by increasing or decreasing the thickness of the layer 18a upwardly or downwardly, or omitting the material at a required height, or varying the density or composition of the material.
