Abstract
451,002. Open - - hearth furnaces. SOC. ANON. D'ESCAUT & MEUSE, Anzin, France. June 17, 1935, No. 17433. Convention date, Feb. 14. [Class 51 (i)] In the construction of gas and air ports for open-hearth furnaces, the tongue 7 consists of a main mass 2 of magnesite or like refractory material of high ther. mal stability supported on a relatively thin arch 1 of material of great mechanical strength at high temperatures, such as silica brick. The arch 1 may decrease in thickness towards the inner end of the tongue 7 and a layer 3 of chromite is interposed between the arch and the main mass 2. The bottom of the air port b, constituted by the upper surface of the mass 2, may be covered with a layer 4 of chromite, and the bottom 6 of the gas port a may be similarly covered.
