[Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] A thin stream of molten alumina containing more than 1 per cent of titania, and optionally some iron oxide and silica, is broken,up and formed into solidified bubbles by the impact of a jet of gas or steam ; the walls a of the bubbles may be solid or cellular and may have internal partitions b..The bubbles are stronger than those obtained from pure alumina and may be conglomerated as by moulding and baking them together with clay &c. to which a small proportion of lignone or dextrine may be added, to form heat-insulating bricks &c.
