Abstract
615,400. Hydraulic operating jacks. CONWAY, H. G. Aug. 13, 1946, No. 24068. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A combined hydraulic jack and shock-absorber for aircraft undercarriages comprises a tubular body 11 divided in two by a diaphragm 12 into two chambers 13 and 14. The chamber 13 contains a piston 21 with a tubular piston rod 22 having a connecting eye 24. The interior of the rod 22 is divided by a piston 25 into an air chamber 26 and a liquid chamber connected through a disc valve 31 to the chamber 13. Chamber 14 contains a piston 15 connected to a tubular piston rod 16 in such a manner as to allow limited movement of the piston 15 thereon. A crown of claws 42 is fixed on the exterior of the body 11 and in the fully retracted position of the piston 15 engages the rim of a locking collar 43. A locking ring 57 having a shoulder 50 of larger diameter than the body 47, slidably mounted on the rod 16 and pressed away from the collar 43 by a spring 49, passes inside the crown 42 to lock it to the collar 43. A cross-head 55 projecting through and slidable in slots 56 in the rod 16 is fixed to the ring 57 and connected to a rod 52 which bears against the end 53 of the piston 15 to disengage the crown 42 when pressure is admitted on that side of the piston 15.
