Abstract
614,944. Wrapping-machines. SCHWEIZ INDUSTRIE-GES. May 31, 1946. No. 16527. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1945. [Class 94 (i)] In a method of applying wrappers to objects in which, during the working stroke, at least two gripping devices carry the object and the wrapper through a folding compartment whereby the wrapper is applied to at least two side walls of the object, the object and the wrapper being then brought under the action of a series of folding devices adapted to carry out further folding processes, on completion of the working stroke the folding and gripping devices return to the starting position, at least one of the gripping devices in so doing being adapted to pass outside the folding compartment. In the form shown the object G and wrapper H are moved upwards between the feeding slide 1 and dolly 2 (on a carrier 12 moved on the guide 14 by a draw-rod 13) through a folding box 3 of known construction, the wrapper being then folded from the top downwards. On reaching the top the stop 6 moves down and the pusher 4 presses the object against it. The feeding slider then moves down to the starting position and side folders 7 and 8 and the under-folder 5 press forward in sequence to form the wrapper into flaps under the object and support it so that the stop 6 is moved upwardly and the pusher 4 finally pushes the object over the static folder 10 to complete the wrapping. The dolly 2 is then rotated by known means and led downwards behind the edge 11 of the folder 5 to the position 2<111>, and then to the position 21. In a modified form the dolly is moved out away from its working position by translation instead of by rotation. In a further modification the dolly is in one piece and is non-rotatably slidable on a guide rotatable about its axis fixed to the frame of the apparatus, the dolly guide being controlled to rotate so that the dolly is moved out of the working position. The dolly may traverse a curved path during its feeding stroke.
