A method of wrapping articles e.g. block-shaped packets, comprises placing a wrapper blank across the mouth of a pocket in a continuously rotating turret, inserting an article sideways into the pocket so that tucks are formed and the blank is folded to U-shape about it, folding the side portions of the U to form a tube and moving the article lengthwise to sealing means for the tube seam, then moving the article radially out of the turret while folding and sealing the end closure flaps. The articles enter radially adjacent one side face of the turret 4 and are transferred axially during wrapping towards the other side face to a guideway 62, 63 associated with each pocket and extending radially of the turret, Fig. 2. Blanks 2 are cut from a web by a rotary knife co-operating with a drum against which the web is held by suction, Fig. 1 (not shown), for transfer on to plates 31, Fig. 3, forming part of the turret where each is held by suction holes 32 over the opening of a pocket 4. Each article is fed by a conveyer 14 on to a plate 15 and is lifted from the latter by arms 17 associated with the trailing side of each pocket. It is pressed with a blank into a pocket 4 by stationary guides 18 and spokes 20 of a wheel 19. During entry, tucks 140 are folded at the leading end by members 33, 34 and then a jaw 45 folds up the lower flaps and a jaw 44 folds down the upper one and remains in position so that the seam so formed is held for sealing. The partially wrapped article is moved axially into alignment with the respective guideway 62, 63 by axial movement of the enclosing pocket formed by members 29, 30, 33, 34. The folder jaws 44, 45 extend axially to the guideway. A heated reciprocating bar 99 seals the seam. The remaining tucks and upper and lower end flaps formed by the tucks are folded by ploughs 64, 65, 66 respectively and sealed by reciprocating heaters 69 as a pusher 90 moves the package radially outwards. It comes to rest between the presser plates 70 that hold the end closures in place until the package is urged by a following package against a stop 134 formed on a cam device 133. The articles are deposited on a fixed plate 135 and pushed along by the members 133, one at a time or, if only alternate pockets have associated cams, in pairs, on to a conveyer (136) Fig. 1 (not shown). Alternatively, single deposited packages may be conducted by a shoot to a lower conveyer which removes them in pairs. Safety means are provided so that when the turret is stopped the heaters are lifted clear of the packages. Articles may be fed into the loading position axially of the turret, Fig. 5 (not shown).
