Abstract

1429641 Coating apparatus HAUNIWERKE KORBER & CO KG 24 May 1973 [24 Feb 1972] 8674/72 Heading B2L [Also in Division B8] In a machine for packeting blocks 4 of cigarettes or the like in flip-top cartons with tin-foil inner wrappers, the blocks 4 are formed in magazine 21 and then moved in cells 29 of conveyor 28 to region 39 where plunger 37 transfers the blocks to hollow mandrels 36 of an intermittently rotating folding turret 8 to which are fed a tinfoil web 32 from device 9, neck blanks 2 from device 11, and gummed outer casing blanks 3 from device 12. Each of these carton components is wrapped round mandrels 36 by reciprocating members 77, 78, 128, 129, 137, 136 to form packages, open at the head but closed at the bottom, which are transferred by plunger 151 to a holder 190 of top closure turret 13. Reciprocating folders 192, 193, 197, 201, 207, 211, 214 turn down the top flap of the tin-foil inner wrapper 1, and form the flip-top lid. The completed packets are transferred to holders 226 of a drying turret 14 which are pre-heated in hot air blower device 228, and finally, the packets join conveyor belt 243 for transfer to device 16 where tabs or labels 247 are withdrawn from magazine 246, gummed, and applied to each packet by device 248. Operation of the machine is controlled by sensors or feelers 281, 282, 283, 284, 286, 287, 288, 289 which detect failures in the feed of wrapper materials, cigarettes, labels, and packages, and actuate electromagnetic clutches. Device 9 includes cutters 56, 57 followed by an assembly suction conveyor 54 which, by means of co-axial drums 63, 64 rotatable at different speeds, the drum 64 having axially displaceable portions, partially over-laps pairs of tin-foil blanks leaving the cutters, 56, 57, 58, 59. Device 12 includes a rotary suction drum 108 which receives blanks 3 from magazine 101 and has recesses 115 complementary to gum application lugs 114 of roll 116 so that if a blank 3 is missing, gum does not touch drum 108. Device 11 has cutter rolls 86, 88 with cutters 87 to partially sever web 82 in the shape of neck inserts.
