Abstract
614,890. Mechanical switches, without quick action; controllers. TAYLOR, G. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23843. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A selector switch comprises an insulating body 2, having a bearing 3 for the foot of the rotor spindle 4, an upper bearing 6 being provided in the cover 7. The body carries concentric and radial rows of spring-load contacts 16 with ball-heads to engage similar rows of concave-headed contact studs 12 on the rotor 1. The shanks of these studs are connected by changeable arcuate or radial strips 14 to give predetermined circuit arrangements. The operative positions are located by a spring- pressed ball 24 in the body and co-operating notches 23 in the periphery of the rotor. Concentric ridges on the rotor co-operating with recesses in the body provide an arcing barrier. By removing clips 9 and a screw 29 the whole may be dismantled for access to the contacts. The switch may be enclosed in an earthed metal casing and used for direct on starting of a number of three-phase motors, Fig. 3 (not shown), or star-delta starting, Fig. 4 (not shown).
