Abstract
614,887. Hydraulic brakes. STEVENS, A. H. (Martin Co., G. L.). Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23821. [Class 103 (i)] In a hydraulic brake system in which pressure liquid is supplied to each brake by a pump through a driver's pressure-control valve, an accumulator being interposed between the pump and valve, the latter is connected to a manuallyoperable flow-control valve arranged to direct the liquid through either of two separate pipes by which it is connected to the brake, one pipe being used for normal supply and the other for emergency supply if the first pipe breaks or is shot away. The aircraft brake system shown comprises a reservoir R, pump P, accumulator A and pressure-control valves 5, 51 operable by the rudder pedals. The valves are connected by pipes 11, 11<SP>1</SP> to fourway flow-control valves 15, 15<SP>1</SP> connected by pipes 19, 23 and 19<SP>1</SP>, 23<SP>1</SP> and shuttle valves 21, 211 to the brake cylinders. With the valves in the position shown, liquid is supplied through the pipes 19, 19<SP>1</SP> and the shuttle valves are vented through pipes 23, 23<SP>1</SP> and pipes 25, 25<SP>1</SP> connected to a reservoir pipe 27. If the pipes 23, 23<SP>1</SP> are used as supply lines, the shuttle valves are vented through the pipes 19, 191.
