Abstract

908,008. Differential braking for steering. DEUTSCHE PERROT-BREMSE G.m.b.H. July 18, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 25999/61. Class 79(2). A motor vehicle steering-brake system wherein at least a pair of wheels is hydraulically braked from a common master cylinder, there being pressure piping extending to the wheel brake cylinders, comprises an independent push button valve in each of the pressure lines for selective disconnection of a brake cylinder. As shown, a pressure fluid supply line 4 from a master cylinder is connected to a valve housing 1 which may be attached to an instrument or control panel 3, the housing 1 comprising a crossbore 7 communicating with the pipe 4 and with valve chambers 8 which have outlet bores 15 connected respectively to pipes 5 and 6 leading to the right and left wheel cylinders respectively. Each valve chamber 8 houses a mushroom valve 9 which is urged away from its seating by a spring 14 and has a stem 10 passing through a bush 11 and is provided with a press button 11. When it is desired to turn the vehicle to the left, say, the left hand push button is pressed, urging the valve 9 upon its seating against the pressure of spring 14, and shutting off the supply of fluid to the right hand wheel brake cylinder. The valve is held in this position by the fluid pressure in the chamber 8 until the -braking force exerted by the main cylinder is released.
