Abstract
614,804. Reamers. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION, Ltd., and ARCHER, J. Aug. 31, 1946, No. 22767. [Class 83 (iii)] In an adjustable reamer having blades 14, Fig. 5, adjusted in tapered slots 15 in a mandrel by nuts 18 at each end of the blades, a washer 39 splined to the mandrel by inwardly-projecting lugs 41 engaging the blade slots is interposed between each nut and the blades. The washers 39 may have a conical recess 40 bearing against the ends of the blades 14 or may have inclined notches 23, Fig. 7, engaging the ends of the blades; the tops of the mandrel threads may be truncated as at 26. Each nut 18 may have a scale co-operating with an index mark on the washer or on the mandrel, or an index mark on the nut may co-operate with a scale on the washer. Knurling or spanner flats may be provided for rotating the nuts.
