Abstract

624,202. Broaches. GOTTSCHALT, N. M. June 11, 1947, No. 15421. Convention date, July 6, 1946. [Class 83 (iii)] An expanding broach comprises a solid body 2 with a longitudinal slot 6 inclined downwards towards the entering end 4 of the broach, a cutting blade 7 with a correspondingly-inclined rear face, means on the ends of the body for clamping the blade in position, and a cylindrical slit sleeve 11 mounted on the body between the clamping means. The blade protrudes through the split sleeve 11, which engages and supports the sides of the blade when the clamping means, in the form of the nuts 15 and 16, are tightened to lock the blade in the adjusted position. The clamping nut 16 is provided with a spherical end. A scale may be provided on the sleeve, and an index mark on the nut 16.
