Abstract

194,892. Merry, F. Feb. 11, 1922. Knife-holders.-The blade 4 of a hand knife is carried in a longitudinal groove 2 in a holder 1 and has its cutting end 5 projecting through a tubular or apertured sleeve or shield 3 at one end of the holder, the ends 5 of the blade being adjusted or projected within the holder by a collar 6 on the holder. The shield 3 serves as a guide to limit the depth of cut. The blade may be formed of narrow spring or ribbon steel and may be connected to the collar 6 by a projection 8 on the blade, formed by a notch 7, engaging a hole 9 in the collar which is clamped against the holder by a set screw 10. Other means for connecting the blade to the collar and the collar to the holder are described. In another form the blade is connected by a nut to a screw mounted longitudinally on the holder, and the holder may be carried at an angle in a separate handle.
