Abstract
614,107. Furnace electrodes. TANBERG, R. July 5, 1946, No. 20207. Convention date, May 8, 1943. [Class 39 (iii)] An agent for building continuous self-baking electrodes and for preventing adherence to the shaping pipe through which the electrode passes, comprises evaporated sulphite waste lye or other aqueous solutions of saccharides, tanning acids, resins and substances which carbonize exothermally, for instance lignin and derivatives of lignin of substantially the same composition as sulphite waste lye. The sulphite waste lye should have a dry material content of 50-60 per cent, the amount used should be 10-35 per cent of the electrode mass, and the latter, whilst passing through the shaping pipe, should be maintained at 150 C.- 300 C. The contents 6 of the shaping pipe 4 is maintained at the required temperature by a surrounding casing 3 through which hot gases from the molten bath 2 pass before escaping through a discharge pipe 7 provided with a control damper 8.
