Abstract

613,952. Valve circuits for radio reception. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 5, 1946, No. 10603. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1941. [Class 40 (v)] In an amplitude limiter in which grid current flows in the control grid circuit, means are provided to maintain a constant mean anode current in order to compensate for the reduction in conduction angle with increased signal amplitude. The limiter shown in Fig. 2 has a large resistor in the cathode circuit so that changes in mean anode current are offset by changes in grid bias. An A.G.C. voltage is provided through resistor 6. The circuit of Fig. 3 uses a pentode valve operated in that part of the characteristic where the anode current varies with anode voltage. The values of the anode resistor 10 and the screen resistor 9 are such that a decrease in mean anode current is offset by a rise in anode and screen grid voltage. The value to which the output is limited may be adjusted by controlling the bias voltage on the suppressor grid.
