[Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] A snap-action switch controlled by a thermally-actuated rod 9, has an annular spring member 1 with knife-edged ends 2, 4, which bear under stress against, respectively, a fixed abutment 3 and the movable abutment 5 of a lever 7 mounted on a support 6 and provided with a reduced section 8. When the rod 9 moves down from the position shown, the spring 1 passes through a dead-centre position, thereby breaking contacts 16 and bridging contacts 17. The rod 9 may be fixed to the lever 7 or the lever may bear by its resilience against the end of the rod. Fig. 2 shows an alternative tubular contact 23 fitted on an insulating tube 22 on a circular-section spring 21. The spring may alternatively be bent into an oval or rectangular shape, and be given an initial set so as to lie in one of the two contact positions.
