Abstract
204,592. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 29, 1922. High-potential switches have primary contacts which normally carry most of the current, secondary contacts at which the circuit is finally broken and tertiary contacts at which the circuit is first made. The operating-rod 20 carries a bridging member 51 which co-operates with fixed primary contacts 50 and pivoted tertiary contacts 33; it also carries within explosion chambers 25 secondary contacts 41 which co-operate with contacts 27 pressed towards them by springs 29. On depressing the rod 20, contact is first broken at the primary and tertiary contacts, the downward movement of the latter being impeded by dash-pots 35. The secondary contacts 27 follow the contacts 41 till stopped by a collar 26, after which the circuit is broken. On raising the rod 20 contact will first be made at the tertiary contacts 33 which will have fallen to their lowest position. The tips of the secondary and tertiary contacts are renewable.
