Abstract

617,725. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. SANTON, Ltd., and KITCHER, D. Oct. 24, 1946, No. 31574. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch has a snap - action cantilever blade spring 10 which is slotted at 13, 14 and deformed so as to have two outer tension members and an inner bowed compression member 15. The thermal element consists of an outer metal tube 6 containing an inner low-expansion alloy rod 7 which are fixed together at their lower ends. The upper end of the tube 6 is screwed to the switch-base 8 and the upper end of the rod 7 carries a stirrup-like member 9 having an adjustable bolt 11 with an insulating part 12 which bears on the compression member 15. At the required temperature, the pressure of the part 12 causes the spring 10 to snap over and open the contacts 17, 18, Fig. 5, movement of the contact 17 being limited by a stop 21 so that when the temperature falls the spring snaps back again.
