Abstract

613,404. Universal joints. GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO. June 20, 1946, No. 18580. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1945. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A flexible coupling between two shafts comprises an inner connecting member including a disc 40a, an outer annular connecting member 46a, 50a encircling the disc and having an interiorlyfacing channel receiving the disc 40a, and a series of circumferentially-spaced cushioning blocks 54a interposed alternately between the disc 40a and opposite side walls of the channel. Aligned shafts 60, 61 are keyed to sleeves 63, 62 which are, respectively, secured to the disc 40a and the outer channel wall 46a. The sleeve 63 is provided with a circumferential rubber buffer 64 where it passes through the outer channel member 50a, and the interior periphery of the channel formed by members 46a, 50a is also provided with a similar buffer 56a. The invention is also applied to vibration dampers and resilient mountings (see Group XXXII).
