Abstract
612,926. Cots ; playpens. DUNKLEYS (LONDON), Ltd., and CUMMING, R. L. June 6, 1946. No. 17270. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (ii)] A folding cot, playpen, &c., having a drop-side movable vertically on guide rods is arranged so that the guide rods are adapted to serve as hinge pins during the folding of the drop-side relative to the cot, &c. ends. As shown the mattress frame is formed in two parts, 13, 14, hinged together by off-set hinges 21, 22, 23, while the end members 15, 16 are hinged to the parts 13, 14 by off-set hinges 27, 28 and the two-part side frame 17, 18 also to these parts by hinges 25. The drop-side is also formed in two parts 19, 20 adapted to slide and rotate about guide rods 30. carried by the end frames 15, 16. The parts 19, 20 may be clamped together at their meeting edges by screws or other means and are provided with catches to maintain them in their upper positions. The off-set hinges 21, 22, 23 of the mattress frame are provided so that the latter has abutting edges when erected to maintain it rigidly. If desired however ordinary hinges may be provided and the edges of the frame provided with projecting abutments. The legs 40 are detachable and are positioned by means of spigots 42 with grooves 43 entering sockets 37 in plates 38 on the mattress frame and locked thereto by snap fasteners 39. In a modification the side frames are hinged to the end frames and fold thereupon, the end frames folding together with the mattress frame. To apply the invention to play pens the mattress frame may be omitted or the transverse bars omitted.
