Abstract

21,781. Abbott, S. S. Oct. 3. Folding and collapsible tables.-The legs of a folding table are held in the extended position by links G, H pivoted to cross-bars E, F sliding. in grooves in the sides of the table. The bars E, F may be fixed by a third bar J connected by spring arms J<1> to the bar F. As the legs of the table are being extended for use, the bars E, F approach one another, the bar J sliding over the bevelled edge E' of the bar E and locking the bars E, F together. In a modification, the links G are connected to the bar F, and the links H to the bar E, sufficient space being allowed between the bars E, F to allow them to approach one another as the legs are folded. The bars E, F may be connected by diagonal links pivoted together so that the operation of one pair of legs automatically actuates the other pair, or the bars E, F may be provided with handles to facilitate their movement. Instead of the spring arm J<1> and the bar J, a turn-button may be employed for locking the bars E, F in position.
