Abstract
609,442. Bedsteads. HOUNSFIELD, L. H. March 14, 1946, No. 7983. [Class 52(ii)] In bedsteads preferably of the type described in Specifications 246,726, [Class 52(ii)], 398,545 and 508,636, the bedstead is collapsable and comprises a canvas top 1, two side members 2 and detachable supports 3, 6 to hold the side members 2 apart and stretch the canvas, the supports 3, 6 being fitted in the vicinity of the head, feet, waist and base positions of the bedstead and preferably in sockets formed in the hinges 8 and end brackets 4 the hinges 8 connecting the central portions 10 of the side members 2 with the end portions 9, 11. The central section and the waist and knee supports 6 form a rigid unit when the bedstead is assembled. Various forms of hinges are described, that shown in Fig. 3 comprising portions 15, 16 hinged at 20 and provided with sockets 17, 21 fixed to the side portions 9, 10 and a socket 22 for the detachable connection of the support 6. Either end section may be raised and held in adjusted position by cords 34 to convert the bedstead into a lounge chair.
