612,779. Seed-sowing machines. PEST CONTROL Ltd., DORMAN, A. K., and HARTLEY, G. S. June 3, 1946, No. 16833. [Class 6 (i)] A seed sower comprises means for rolling in seed to a pre-determined depth after sowing on the unchannelled surface of the ground, and means for covering the seed after rolling. As shown, the seed is fed from a hopper 1 down a tube 3, deflector plates 11 preventing the seed from scattering. A roller 12 fitted with flanges or grooved circumferentially is mounted on a pivoted spring- loaded or weighted arm 10, together with coulters 15 for covering the seed with or without further rolling. A hopper 17 contains a protective powder, such as charcoal, which is delivered through tubes 23, 24, over the seeds, a little powder being fed in front of the roller to assist in preventing soil adhering to the wheel. In a modification, the powder-hopper may be dispensed with, when a plain roller may be used.
