Abstract

1,262,903. Seed drill and fertilizer distributor. R. L. B. BENAC and G. J. BENAC. 7 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968], No. 23374/69. Heading A1D. A seed drill and/or fertilizer distributor assembly has a double disc coulter, the two discs 24, 25 of which are relatively inclined and contact each other at their forward edges with the forward edge of one disc contacting the other disc and the forwardmost edges of the two discs being staggered one with respect to the other, the point of contact being laterally offset from a preceding single disc coulter 10. An articulated frame 1, 47, 9, 12 supports on its front member 12 the single disc 10 and a coulter blade 13, which assembly may either be pivotable in a vertical plane or movable laterally of the main frame 1, and which forms a relatively deeper trough into which fertilizer is fed via conduit 17 1 , 17 2 . The double disc coulter 24, 25 may also be movable laterally of the main frame 1 and forms a relatively shallower trough into which seed is sown via a conduit 26. An adjustable depth-limiting skid (16), (16 4 ), Fig. 1 (not shown) may be provided on the single disc assembly. An inclined disc of the double disc coulter 24, 25 covers the fertilizer furrow formed by the first disc 10 with soil, the seed furrow being closed either by rear, resiliently mounted wheels 30, 31 or by a roller 54. A gauge wheel 51 may limit the penetration of the double disc coulter which may be provided with scrapers 43 and bolstering rollers 44, 45. Two levels of fertilizer may be spread by using a second coulter blade (62), Fig. 10 (not shown), behind the blade 13. The apparatus may have carrying wheels (53), Fig. 7 (not shown), and may be used solely for distributing fertilizer.
