Abstract

1309205 Seed-sowing apparatus; share G J BENAC and R L B BENAC 19 April 1971 [9 April 1970] 26619/71 Headings A1B and AID A seed-sowing apparatus comprises a coulter arranged to form a furrow to receive manure or fertiliser and a share 10 so shaped and disposed with respect to the coulter that one profiled face 18 of the share is applied against one side of the furrow to produce a laterally offset seed-bed 27. Seed is then deposited on the bed by means on the apparatus. In the preferred apparatus, the share 10 is shaped as shown in Figs. 3, 4, 6 and seed is deposited through a tube 20 at the rear thereof. In use, circular coulter 1 opens a deep furrow and this is further opened by blade coulter 7 after which slow-acting "bottom" fertiliser is deposited by channel 6. The furrow is then modified by share 11 which plugs the previous furrow with soil to trap the fertiliser and an upper furrow is formed. This has faster acting fertiliser deposited therein by channel 12. Seedbed 27 is then formed by share 10 and the seed deposited. An inclined wheel 14 or pair of wheels (Fig. 12 not shown) then covers the seed-bed. The seed-sowing assembly including container 9 is mounted on frame arms 5 by a parallelogram linkage 8 and arms 5 are pivoted by hinges 3 on frame 4 which is connected to a tractor by bars 2.
