Abstract
612,593. Air -- cooling for converters. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. May 29, 1946, No. 16362. Convention date, July 11, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] An air-cooled metal tank mercury vapour converter has arranged within the tank C a cluster of U-shaped tubes T through which the cooling air circulates in parallel. The tubes are so disposed that the curved portions penetrate into the region R of high vapour pressure adjacent to the cathode K. Their inlets e and outlets S are positioned in adjacent regions of the anode-carrying lid P, said regions being separated by a partition g which may house a fan V and act as an air shaft. An air-cooling system m is also provided round the outside of the tank, which system may be operated either independently of or in series with the internal cooling system.
