Abstract
612,594. Metal vapour converters. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. May 29, 1946, No. 16363. Convention date, July 19, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A metal tank high-power mercury vapour polyanodic current converter has an annular cathode K whose effective area is limited on its outer side by a refractory insulating ring a, e.g. quartz, and towards its centre by a cup a<1> of the same material, convex side upward. The metal plate p forming the bottom of the cathode carries centrally a core n to limit the expansion region of the mercury. An internal air-cooling system comprises a cluster of tubes T whose inlet ends e are fixed to the anodecarrying lid P, the other ends s opening into a central conduit R which may house a fan V for maintaining the cooling current of air flowing in parallel through the tubes T. This flow may be in series with or independent of the aircooling arrangements m for the external walls of the tank.
