Abstract

422,176. Mercury-arc devices. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28189. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] A glass mercury-arc converter comprises an annular vessel 1 and a plurality of anode arms 3, which are parallel to the axis of the vessel, and are connected thereto by means of lateral elbows 2. The container is housed within a sheet - metal casing consisting of parts 6, 11, which are suitably cut in order that they may be joined together within the vicinity of the elbows. The anode arms are surrounded by a cylinder 8 and are separated from each other by radial plates; the cylinder 8 may be replaced by a member 15 which is shaped to fit the anode arms and forms cylindrical air ducts therewith. Air from a fan 7 is guided through the container by means of a helical duct 13. A support for the container consists of a trough 5 and cross arms secured to the casing 6, which may house the leads to the electrodes.
