Abstract
574,758. Discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GIBSON, W. T. Feb. 15, 1944, No. 2824. [Class 39 (i)] A cooling system for an electrode such as a hollow metal anode 9 of a thermionic valve, or the anti-cathode of an X-ray tube, comprises a plurality of transverse annular fins 4 fixed to the anode 9 and enclosed in a jacket 12, preferably of circular cross-section, which is divided .into two substantially equal compartments by means of vertical baffle plates 13, .the lower end of one compartment being closed by a semicircular plate 14 and the upper end of the other compartment by a semi-annular ring 5. The top of the jacket is closed by two plates 7 having rims 6 resting on the upper fin so as to hold the valve in position. Corona rings 8 are fitted to the rims 6. Air blown up into one compartment passes between the fins into the other compartment and escapes between the anode 9 and the corona rings 8. For water-cooling, the jacket is closed at the top and bottom except for an outlet and inlet tube respectively. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the fins, which may also be square or rectangular in shape, are cut away so as to allow clearance for the baffles 13.
