In an arrangement for evaporative cooling of an external anode, as in the parent Specification, the external surface of the anode is formed as a series of massive annular fins or ribs 4 extending round the anode. The diameter of these ribs may gradually decrease from top to bottom, as shown. The flange 16 enables the tube to be supported in the boiling chamber.
