Abstract

555,126. Metallic-vapour converters. AKT.- GES, BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Jan. 3, 1942, No. 114. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] In a converter of the kind in which the anodes are mounted in the main chamber and more than one cooling tube passes from the floor to the cover of the chamber-within the circle on which the anodes are arranged, means are provided for cooling the space outside the anode circle or in the anode circle between the anodes. In one form cooling tubes d1, Figs. 1, 2, pass within the anode circle and cooling tubes d2 pass outside the anode circle. The tubes are bent towards the axis of the rectifier. In Fig. 4, tubes d2 pass between the anodes b. In Fig. 6, the anode leads are sunk in recesses e in the cylindrical chamber a and tubes d1 d2 pass between and inside the anodes. Cooling tubes d3 open into the recesses e and cool the anode leads. If a ring cathode is used the tubes d1 may pass inside the cathode. Cooling tubes d2 may be replaced by cooling ribs or pockets.
