Abstract

553,096. Mercury arc rectifiers. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. Sept. 3, 1941, No. 11267. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] In single or multi-anode vapour rectifiers the liquid cathode 2 is annular and the anodes 4, Fig. 1, or anodes 4a, 4b, Fig. 3, are arranged so that their projections lie within the cathode, so as to separate the arc discharge and the vapour flow. A screen 6 or screens 6a, 6b is or are placed round the anode or anodes ; the screens may carry control potentials or additional grids 10 may be used. A partition 9 is used to isolate the anodes. The anodes may be supported from the bottom of the rectifier as shown, or from the top. A funnel 8 catches condensed mercury from the top 7. Air or water cooling is provided. Specification 145,676, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 145,676, [Class 39 (i)].
