514,676. Discharge apparatus. SOC. ANON. POUR LES APPLICATIONS DE L'ELECTRICITE ET DES GAZ RARES ETABLISSEMENTS CLAUDE-PAZ & SILVA. March 30, 1938, No. 9738. Convention date, Feb. 2. [Class 39 (i)] In a gas-filled discharge tube with a cathode at one end and at least two anodes mounted close together on a single stem at the other end, the parts of the anodes nearer to the cathode and facing the envelope extend close up to the wall of the tube so that only the anode surfaces facing the cathode are affected by the discharge. In the form shown concentric anodes 12, 13 are employed separately by a small space of width d, the outer anode 12 having a flange which extends close to the wall 22. A tube 18 of refractory material prevents discharge between the lead-in wires 15, 19. In a modification, two slightly separated semi-cylindrical anodes are employed. A mercury vapour tube may have argon as an auxiliary filling gas, the pressures mentioned being .4 mm. and .8 mm. mercury. Dimensions and anode spacings are given for a tube giving a rectified current of 2.5 to 3 amperes at the cathode.
