Abstract
611,949. Making toothed gearing. FERRANTI, Ltd., HUNT, W., TAYLOR, J., and WOOD, A. L. May 14, 1946, No. 14501. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Spinning.-Small gear-wheels &c. are trued by rotation against members 17<SP>1</SP> 14<SP>1</SP> alternately disposed to deflect the wheel rim through successively decreasing distances from the true plane of rotation. An electric motor 13 clutched to a shaft 12 drives a worm 23 and through pulleys 7, 8 a mandrel 2 gripping the wheel disc 4 and supporting its shaft 3. A five-lobed disc cam 22 driven by the worm 23 oscillates a follower 20 on a pivoted, spring- controlled lever 19 carrying trueing members 141, 17<SP>1</SP> disposed either side of the wheel rim 4. Operation. When the clutch is engaged, the gear-wheel 4 rotates and the cam 22 forces the members 14<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP> alternately against the wheel rim deflecting it through distances of 20, 10. 5, 2 and 1 mil. beyond the required true plane until the cycle is stopped after one cam revolution, when a clutch bar 29 engages a clutch control plate 32 and declutches the motor 13. In one modification, the trueing members 14<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP> may be separately operated from either individual or common cams.
